The municipality of Echt lies centrally in the province
of Limburg and has approx. 18000 inhabitants.
Internationally you can walk to either Germany or Belgium.
Maaseik (Be) is 9 km and Waldfeucht (De) is 12 km distance from Echt.
By surface area, the county of Echt is one of the largest municipalities.
The boundary circumference is about 50 km.
Echt is a historic town and still has tangible memories of the past.
There is the late-Gothic church hall with a priest choir dating
from the 15th century. Further there is the House Verduynen,
a beautiful moated 17th century squire's nobleman's home.
In Echterbroek lies an interesting remains
of a "motte", a middle age fortress.
The O.L. Women's Chapel at Schilberg dates from 1691.
Nearby this chapel are 7 crypts that have been authentically rebuilt.
In the recently renovated historic town centre
of Echt we come across many style full older houses.
Recreation Echt has aplenty, extensive natural
areas with marked walking routes, picnic places, shelter huts
and observation posts. The large recreation park "In the Baandert"
contains amongst its facilities a covered swimming bath
with fields for tanning and a restaurant.
